A new documentary “Europe’s Hidden Shame” broadcast on Al Jazeera on 16 April reveals numerous human rights abuses in Romania’s institutions for disabled people and looks into how EU funding has been used to perpetuate institutionalisation of disabled Romanians.

The documentary includes interviews with Romania’s Secretary of State for Social Policy Codrin Scutaru and Commissioner for Regional Policy Johannes Hahn.
