ENIL-ECCL held its fourth in a series of webinars on the 27th April 2018, with 17 people attending. The aim of the webinar series is to help us all think about what works, so that we can plan the steps needed in our own countries or in our organisations to begin the real work to close down institutions for disabled people. We heard from two key presenters: Steven Eidelman (University of Delaware, US) spoke about the process of closing down institutions for people with intellectual disabilities in the US and the work they are doing in North America and elsewhere to develop new leadership. Jamie Bolling (Independent Living Institute and ENIL, Sweden) spoke about the value of working across borders, with the example of co-operation between countries in the North. Ines Bulic and Nic Crosby explained the role of ENIL-ECCL in promoting learning between countries and regions in Europe, when it comes to moving away from institutions to independent living.
