ENIL-ECCL held its fifth webinar on the 1st June 2018, with 15 people attending. The aim of the webinar series is to help us all think about what works, so that we can plan the steps needed in our own countries or in our organisations to begin the real work to close down institutions for disabled people.
We heard from two presenters: Nic Crosby, of GatherBuildWork in England, shared his learning from working alongside children, young people and families to introduce self-directed support and personal budgets. His work has focused on enabling families to live more independently and their sons and daughters to get the support they need to enjoy, play and achieve. Julia Fitzpatrick, from Horizon Housing, Scotland, spoke about the work of her organisation to provide homes to individuals and families to enable them to live independently in the community, as well as the legal and policy context in Scotland and how it has developed over the years.
