‘Leading Change’ Webinar (23 February 2018)

Leading change
Friday 23rd February, 11:00 - 12:30 CET/10:00 - 11:30 GMT

ENIL-ECCL held its second in a series of webinars on the 23rd February 2018, with 17 people attending. The aim of the webinar was to help us all think about what works, so that we can think about taking steps in our own countries or in our organisations to begin real work to close institutions. We heard from two presenters: Tara Flood, from the Alliance for Inclusive Education (ALLFIE) in the UK, and Milena Johnova from Quip - quality in practice, from the Czech Republic.

Tara Flood spoke about what ALLFIE does and why, and what she has learnt through her campaigning:

  1. The vital role that non-disabled allies play in ALLFIE’s campaigning work;
  2. To secure social change, it is important to change the traditional conversation about disabled people, our potential and our place in society; and
  3. Human rights and equality must be the basis of any social change campaigning.

Milena Johnova spoke about the national system of social services for people with disabilities in the Czech republic, its development regarding deinstitutionalisation and the impact of national and regional projects on the right to independent living. The limits and opportunities of individuals leaving institutional care were presented in two case studies.
